Moving Checklists

How it Works

Get an Estimate

As much as we would love to give quotes over the phone, every move is different. That is why we will send out an estimator to give you a precise quote.

Plan Your Move

Moving is easy when you use our checklists. It keeps you organized and ensures you are ready for us on your moving day. Best of all you can download free.

Schedule Your Move

For extremely busy moving days at the beginning and last days of the month, we encourage you to schedule your move and lock it in early.

When should I call A-1 Moving Company?

If you need to move today, we can probably do that. If you require a written in-home estimate, you should call about 7 days to 2 weeks before your move. We generally just ask you to give us as much notice as you can.

How long does A-1 Moving Company need for an in-home estimate?

Usually no more than an hour

What are my responsibilities?

In brief … Be present during the packing of your belongings. Take personal responsibility for jewelry and other high value items. Check and sign the inventory of your belongings. Ensure that no prohibited items are packed.

So what can or can’t I take with me?

Generally speaking, dispose of all flammable items, liquids, foods and other items that should not be shipped. Anything that can deteriorate should not be shipped. If you have a question about something, just call and ask

Anything that is definitely a no-go?

Well, mainly those things you might expect – drugs, alcohol, weapons, ammunition. Shipping certain high value items or collections may require you to purchase extra coverage.

How long will A-1 Moving Company take to pack my goods?

Every home is different but we can normally pack a home in 1-2 days.

Moving Checklist

1 Month Before Moving

Notify the post office that you are moving. An online Change of Address form is available on the United States Postal Service Web site.

Prepare a list of friends, relatives, business firms and others who should be notified of your move.

Begin to use up supplies of canned goods, frozen foods and other household items. Buy only what will be used before moving.

Have a “garage sale” or use an online auction service to dispose of unwanted items.

2 Weeks Before Moving

Notify your agent if you add or subtract items from your planned move or if there are any changes in dates.

Confirm any extra stops required to pick up or deliver goods to a location other than the main pickup or delivery points.

Set a date for having utilities disconnected. If possible, plan to keep utilities in service through moving day./p>

Do not clean your upholstered furniture before moving. Moisture could cause mold if furniture must be placed in storage.

Moving Day!

It is your responsibility to see that all of your goods are loaded, so remain on the premises until loading is complete. After making a final tour of the house, check and sign the inventory. Get your copy from the van operator and keep it.

Water shut off?

Windows shut and locked?

Have you left anything?

All utilities arranged for disconnection? Final reading reported?

Old house keys surrendered?

Furnace shut off?

Make sure the van operator has the exact destination address. Be sure to let the van operator know how you can be reached, including phone numbers, pending the arrival of your household goods.
